In 1990 I joined a Ballroom/Latin American dance class. At the end of the course I was asked to assist with demonstrating and a couple of years later with teaching.

I discovered that I enjoyed teaching almost as much as dancing. I gained immense satisfaction from taking a class of up to 70 complete beginners and in 10 weeks watch them do the waltz, quick step, social foxtrot and cha cha cha. Each class had some people who thought they had 2 left feet, or no sense of rhythm or were very nervous and shy. All these people ended up dancing, in time and with more confidence – not just in dancing.

In March 2000 I set up my own dance classes and also advertised private lessons (specialising in teaching couples the first dance for their wedding but also couples and individuals who were going to attend a formal ball, company dance etc) This has lead to many interesting experiences, such as teaching a wonderful group of visually impaired dancers for 3 years, teaching the "Lord and Lady" for the Channel 4 Series "The Edwardian House" and appearing on TV at the grand ball for the programme.
